Master Plan
파크1538은 철강 기업인 포스코 공장 부지에 인접한 포스코의 본사 업무 단지, 기업 메모리얼, 홍보관 공원 등의 프로그램을 통합한 마스터플래닝 프로젝트이다. 1970년도 최초로 조성된 본 사이트의 공간 프로그램들은 포항 제철소라는 공장 중심의 마스터플랜에 의해 계획되었으며, 그간 부분적인 프로그램들의 수용은 있었지만 현 시대가 요구하는 개방적이고 공공적인, 그리고 지속 가능한 자생적 성격의 장소로 탈바꿈하기 위해서는 사이트 전체의 플랜 변화가 필요하였다. 그래서 우리는 각 프로그램들의 지속 가능한 연결과 자생적 활성을 디자인 전략으로 세우고 파크 1538 프로젝트의 마스터플랜을 계획하였다.
Park 1538 is a master plan project integrating programs of POSCO Headquarter Business Complex, Company Memorial, Visitor Center and parks, next to the site of POSCO. It began in 1970s and the space programs were planned via a master plan focusing on POSCO. Though with accommodation in part, it needs to change the whole site plan to convert it open and public as demanded in current era, and, to be sustainable and autogenous. Therefore, we have prepared the Park 1538 Project with the design strategy of sustainable connection of each program and autogenous vitalization.
Ascending Tract
Park1538의 Ascending Tract는 경사로와 계단으로 이동하면서 방문객에게 새로운 관점으로 사이트를 바라볼 수 있는 경험을 제공한다. 뿐만 아니라, 방문객들을 역사적 체험공간으로 자연스럽게 유도하며 중간다리 역할을 하는 과도기적 공간이다. 약 40미터 높이의 두 가지 타입으로 선정된 보행로 중 첫 번째 타입은 좁은 숲을 지나 안내소까지 연결된 가파른 타입이며, 다른 하나는 보행자들이 건축물을 들여다보며 휴식을 취할 수 있는 잔디 광장을 가로지르고 다음 이어지는 공간 프로그램과 완충 역할을 한다. 이 두 가지 타입의 산책로를 "차오름길"이라 부르며 주변 환경과 함께 변화하는 자연을 경험하고 수변 공간과 안내소를 연결한다.
As a walkway made while moving from the slope to stairs, it gives an experience to look up the site and transfer at the same time, which guides visitors to stroll in various perspective views. It is a transitional space moving to the historical experiential space. For managing about the forty meters level, it was selected to two types of stairs; one is a steep ascent stage that gives an experience to go down the narrow forest after the public information center, the other is a buffer stage that cross the lawn plaza where visitors can look up and look down the architecture between the first stage and next zone. These two types of stairs is named ‘Cha-o-reum-gil’ to connect the waterfront park with the public information center and provide the experience of the changing nature with surroundings.
Hall of Fame
파크 1538 중 1538의 의미는 철이 녹는 온도를 나타내며, 자연으로부터 추출된 철이라는 원소가 물질화되는 중요한 포인트를 내포한다. 이와 같은 맥락에서 본 마스터플랜의 핵심은 순환이다. 마스터플랜의 자생적인 순환의 개념은 본 사이트의 장소성, 역사성, 생태성을 유기적으로 연결한다.
명예의 전당은 전체 공원의 피날레 공간으로, 세계적인 철강 기업 포스코와 함께 철강 산업에 기여한 철강 명장의 50년을 기억하는 공간이자, 창조적 철강 산업을 이끌어 갈 다음 세대의 다짐의 공간이다.
기존 건립된 준공탐을 구심점으로 하여 감싸 안듯이 조성된 기념 조형물은 다양한 구조 프로그램으로 구성되었다. 공간의 왼쪽에 포스코의 역사적 인물들을 기리는 전시 구역이 있으며, 우측면엔 그들의 이름을 담은 명패가 격자 무늬로 배치된다. 기념 전시물은 유리로 보호되어 기념물로서의 존재를 대표할 뿐만 아니라 산업 단지 외부의 오염과 부식으로부터 방지된다. 위쪽에는 스카이 브리지의 시작점으로, 전시 구조를 따라 램프가 배열되며 자연스럽게 스카이 브리지에 연결되어 다음 장소인 체험 센터로 이동한다.
1538 means iron’s melting temperature, implying an important point that iron, extracted from the nature, is be materialized. The core of the master plan, in this context, is fluidity. The concept of autogenous fluidity of the plan connects the place, history, and ecology.
The Memorial Space, ending spot in the whole park, newly reorganizes the existing memorial statues for commemorating the historical characters who had contributed to the invention and development of iron in accordance with the POSCO, the world-class company in the steel industry.
Memorial consists of the multiple structure program, as covering the existing sculptures. On the left side in the space, there is an exhibition section commemorating the historical characters of POSCO, and the grids of their nameplates are arranged on the right side. The memorial exhibits are not only protected with invisible glass to represent their own presence as memorials, but also prevented from pollution and corrosion outside in the industrial complex. On the upper side, a starting point of Sky Bridge, the lamps are arrayed following the exhibition structure and naturally connected to the Sky Bridge for transferring to the next place, the experience center.
Sky Bridge
Sky Bridge는 본질적으로 공간의 핵심인 Memorial Zone과 연결되어 동선 흐름의 한계를 극복한다. 이전 사이트 계획의 경우, 사람들이 산을 가로지르며 도로를 지나 100개의 계단을 통해 다음 구역으로 넘어갈 수 있었지만, 신규 Sky Bridge를 통해 이러한 단점을 보완하였다. Sky Bridge로 지형의 단차 극복과 다른 구역까지의 원활한 동선 흐름이 만들어졌을 뿐만 아니라, 숲의 형상을 따라 곡면으로 조성된 보행로와 함께 자연과의 조화를 이루었다. 이런 점에서 방문객들은 숲 위를 떠다니며 걷는 듯한 느낌을 받으며 다음 공간을 기대하는 새로운 경험을 하게 된다.
사이트 인근 공간에서부터 핵심 공간까지의 다양한 접근 유형 방식은 공간 프로그램과 서로 연결된다. 이러한 연결점은 각각 다른 특징을 지닌 도로, 경사도, 데크, 그리고 Sky Bridge의 다양한 레벨의 차이를 극복할 수 있게 한다. 전략적으로 최대한 환경을 침범하지 않는 방향으로 공간의 흐름을 구성하였다. Park 1538은 공장과 자연 (숲, 평지, 언덕, 하늘)의 대비, 그리고 비물질적인 요소(media)와 물질적 요소 (substance)의 대비와 같이 프로그램의 대비를 통한 영감의 장소다.
Sky Bridge completely solves the limitations of traffic circulation of the site, naturally connected with the Memorial zone. According to the previous plan of the site, people had to use over one hundred of stairs after crossing the mountain and passing through the roads for moving to the next zone. However, the new Sky Bridge on the master plan overcomes the level difference and make them smoothly transfer to another, as well as it makes the landscape with the curved line through the forest by forming the least space of passageway. In this respect, visitors can have new experiences to feel like floating on the forest and expect the next space.
Various access types from nearby spaces to the site connect the programs each other. It allows to overcome the site’s level with various paths of road, slope, floating deck, and sky bridge. It strategically organizes the flow to minimize the infringement of the environment. Park 1538 is a place of inspiration via the contrast of programs. It contrasts each program by placing factors of factory ‒ forest, flatland ‒ hill, earth ‒ sky, media (non-substance) ‒ sculpture (substance), etc. in the space. This program mix is the source of moving.
